President Donald Trump has been briefed on a plan to use money set aside to fund projects including in storm-damaged areas of Puerto Rico to build 315 miles of barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border, NBC News reported, citing three officials familiar with the briefing. Under an emergency declaration, the president could take the money from these civil works projects and use it to build the border wall, the report said. Besides Puerto Rico, the funds are allocated for flood prevention projects in California. Trump has asked Congress for $5.7 billion worth of wall funding.
