President Donald Trump on Thursday said he believes the Federal Reserve may cut interest rates, after a period of raising them last year. “We have somebody that likes raising rates,” Trump said at a White House summit on social media, in a reference to Fed Chairman Jerome Powell. “Now I think he’s maybe going to change, but we’ll find out,” Trump added. Noting the 27,000 milestone for the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.85% he claimed the index could gain by another 10,000 points with lower rates. Powell finished two days of testimony on Capitol Hill on Thursday, in which he boosted expectations for a rate cut by the Fed at its meeting later this month.
