Shares of Ford Motor Co. F, +15.96% soared 14.4% on heavy volume in afternoon trading Wednesday, a day after rocketing 23.4%, and have now bounced 41.4% since closing at an 11-year low of $4.01 on Monday. Trading volume swelled to 151.8 million shares Wednesday, up from 146.2 million shares on Monday and well above the full-day average of about 98.3 million shares over the past 30 days. As big as the 2-day bounce has been, it was still less than the 62.0% rally in the two days surrounding the 2008 Thanksgiving holiday, when the stock soared 29.5% on Nov. 26 on volume of 173.1 million shares and 25.1% on Nov. 28 on volume of 119.9 million shares. Meahwhile, Ford’s stock was still down 40.4% over the past three months, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, while the S&P 500 SPX, +4.50% has lost 21.3%.
