Shares of NiSource Inc. NI, +0.68% plummeted 11% in premarket trade Friday, after customers of one of the company’s seven regulated utilities, Columbia Gas of Massachusetts, were asked to evacuate following gas-related explosions in towns outside of Boston, according to reports. Explosions broke out in dozens of homes in Lawrence, Andover and North Andover, according to news reports. Lawrence police said all roadways into the city remain closed, as crews are doing house to house checks until further notice. NiSource did not immediately respond to a request for comment. NiSource shares had closed Thursday at a record high, after running up 17% over the past three months. In comparison, the Dow Jones Utility Average DJU, +0.93% has climbed 10% over the past three months and the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.57% has gained 3.9%.
